"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" - MLK

Hi!  I'm Mercedez, a dexterous Law student @ QUB, with a passion for social justice.

Originally from Trinidad & Tobago (with West African heritage), I moved to N.Ireland a number of years ago and have firsthand experience of the challenges AND opportunities for BAME students integrating into academic life and society here in the United Kingdom.

Since joining QUB, I've been active in the role as an Arts and Humanities Student Representative on the Student Union Council.

Using both my passion and my experience to fulfil the following manifesto commitments, I will:

  • Represent, with equality and integrity, the diverse views and opinions of QUB's BAME community.

  • Support BAME students to be aware of and exercise their rights as students of QUB and residents of N.I - through ensuring information is readily available and accessible

  • Encourage BAME students to maximise the opportunities available to them - through promoting and facilitating participation in various clubs and societies.

  • Celebrate and promote the beauty, richness and diversity of the BAME community at QUB - through organising events to share our history, culture, art & music and of course FOOD!

It would be my pride and honour to represent you all. Let us stand together 'to be the change' that we wish to see at Queen's, because like Nelson Mandela said, 'as long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.'
