Candidate for the position of Student Officer Equality & Diversity

Shruthi Gurumoorthy

Learning to Teach Change: Equality & Diversity. Establishing a Community supporting - Equality, Good Environment, Socially inept and mental health issues of all the individuals on campus . Will be your voice and Will make sure that it has been heard

Hi everybody, my name is Shruthi Gurumoorthy, and I am a master's student at the business school. I am running for election as the student officer for equality and diversity because I want to make sure that the opinions of all students from all schools and grades are addressed while working to strengthen equality and healthy relation and behaviours towards all the groups. As a student, I think that equality and diversity contribute to ensure that every student may learn in an environment where their identities are fully acknowledged, appreciated, and protected.

In my capacity as your representative on the Queen's University Belfast student body, I would work to make sure that:

1. Equality

Raising awareness of inequality and prejudice by creating interest to and expanding knowledge about diversity and equality in the university through recurring training sessions and lectures on basic equality issues and possible solutions.

2. Good Environment

Establish and uphold an atmosphere for growing and working that promotes the wellness and quality of life of both staff and students.

3. Will Commit to

  • work to get rid of the hurdles that hinder disabled people from participating because of views, practises, and behaviours.
  • Promote LGBTQIA+ students' objectives and points of view. By creating an active LGBTQIA + network, networking opportunities for social and professional purposes, and expanding networks of LGBTQIA+ role models, more opportunities will be created.

4. Students Mental Health and well being:

Establishing a Community supporting -  Socially inept and mental health issues of all the individuals on campus .Being one of the students and having faced with problems that had an impact on daily life, I realised how necessary it was to have a listening ear and a voice. Either you have to come out of your shell or stay in your comfort zone.I Will make sure you that are reached.

5. Violence and Assault

Establishing programmes dedicated to teaching students to understand exploitation and take action when they see problematic behaviour, as well as violence prevention programmes. Surveys from students and regular communication will be used to track the level of violence affecting students.

I will draw on my prior experience serving as a Student Coordinator and a member of the student council throughout my undergraduate studies to carry out these objectives. In addition to this, I'll make every attempt to give you the opportunity to share with me how I can enhance your experience because you are the one who should know what must be changed. I would consider it an opportunity for me to stand in your place for the upcoming year and have the chance to enhance your time at university.
