Stop polluting and start living!

Hello! My name is Aditi Sangogi and I am representing for Environmental Officer because I believe that in order to make the future a better place, we must act now in a realistic yet innovative manner. I want to use the role to campaign for and bring in policies that will benefit both the environment we live and work in every day on campus and also to benefit students as a whole.

Being an Architecture background student I go through the climate, environmental crises articles, news letters everyday and I feel that now it is time for all of us at every level of academia to step up and join the fight against the climate crisis. We will stand in solidarity as we students reshape their futures – and the future of our planet.

Through last years , there have been great campaigns led by the Environment  Officers. I assure to carry them on, in addition to working for the campaigns and policies, I will make sure that we participate in Promoting Environment friendly options for Societies i.e. Working closely with union to spread environmental awareness and educate societies. To help them cut down on waste and choosing better more eco friendly alternatives. Hopefully, this will mean that the issue of the environment is more visible to students with a wide range of campaigns on environmental issues being run that will benefit students in the long run.

If elected, the following are the primary plans I wish to implement:

Plan and organise enjoyable activities for pupils to raise awareness of important environmental issues.

Obtaining direct feedback from students on how the union as a whole can become more environmentally friendly

Making pupils aware of how they can become more environmentally friendly.

Take an active role in strategic evaluations to ensure that environmental challenges are not only acknowledged but also addressed.

I think I would be the best candidate for this position because: I already work in the Students Union, so I routinely interact with a diverse group of students and am aware of any environmental concerns they may have. I am a self-assured and accessible individual who would be able to persuade the pupils.

1. ENGAGEMENT: Queens has an amazing enviromental core, including the Green Society and SOLAR . We will coordinate with all the active and relevant authority, so that students are able to be more involved with events on campus.

2. COMMUNICATION: We will hold office hours so you can come to us with any queries, and we will also have a persistant presence on social media, so you can stay updated with all the union developments! We want to make your voices HEARD.

3. COORDINATION: We want our actions to have the greatest impact possible and this involves coordinating with other members of the Student Body! For example, we would like to have better bins, so our recycling rates are higher around campus. However this also depends on the conditions with which staff have to work in! We believe many environmental issues will be interlinked with other Queens movements in this way, hence the need for coordination.

4. SUSTAINABILITY: We will attempt to cut down on single-use waste around the campus, for example freebies at Freshers.

5. GREENERY: We want to look into installing biosynthetic greenery plant walls – indoors and out!

Fundraising for environmental benefits. Working with internal university teams to develop sustainability. Keeping an open dialogue with students in order to work together.
