Oh, I just can’t wait to be President!
Hi, I’m Abhay and I’m running to be your SU President. As the President of the Student Union, I aim to act as a bridge between Queen’s diverse student body and the University. I believe that in order to ensure that each and every student has equal opportunities, and can make the most out of their time at the university, it is very essential that they have constant and uninterrupted access to a platform through which they can voice their concerns, and I firmly believe that QUBSU is that platform.
As a candidate, I present to you my five-point plan to ensure that QUBSU becomes an efficient, supportive and collaborative body, which acts as the voice of each and every student.
> REPRESENTATION: Through its various bodies, such as Advice SU, Volunteer SU and Enterprise SU, I, as a representative of the Student Union, seek to provide all students with the opportunities they deserve. I will act as a representative of the student body, and there will be constant communication between the student union and the students.
> RESOLUTION: Through constant dialogue and consultation with the University administration, I seek to address any and every problem faced by students, regardless of background, nationality or gender.
> SECURITY: I seek to ensure that Queen’s campus and accommodation are a safe place for students, and they can move around fearlessly. I also aspire to ensure that all students be given continued access to mental wellbeing resources and help. Every student should have access to all means to ensure their own safety and that of their peers.
> COMMUNICATION: Make use of social media, student newspapers and radio to ensure that all students are aware of the opportunities given to them by the university and the student union.
> TRANSPARENCY: As an organisation of the students, for the students and by the students, the students union needs to maintain high standards of transparency and accountability. I will ensure that the workings of the students union are not opaque, thus building trust.
