Making postgraduate feedback count!
About Me
I’m a Biomedical Engineering graduate currently studying MSc Mechanical Engineering with Management at QUB. Having studied at a different university and moved into a different engineering discipline, I bring a fresh perspective on postgraduate study. I understand that students arrive with different academic backgrounds and experiences, and I want to help ensure those differences are reflected in how the School supports its postgraduate community.
My Aims
1. Mid-semester anonymous check-in
I will introduce a short, anonymous mid-semester survey with three or four questions about workload, assessments and the student experience. I will share a summary of the findings with students and relevant staff to highlight common issues and identify areas for improvement.
2. Support the transition into postgraduate study
Having moved from Biomedical Engineering at a different university to Mechanical Engineering with Management at QUB, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new university and discipline. I would explore opportunities for peer support, such as an informal session where students can discuss challenging engineering fundamentals, share useful resources and learn from each other's academic backgrounds.
3. Close the feedback loop
I will ensure feedback does not disappear after it is raised. I will communicate recurring concerns to the relevant staff, seek updates on actions taken and share outcomes with students, so they know what has been raised, what is being addressed and where further progress is needed.
4. Develop technical and AI skills
I will work with staff to ensure students can access support with engineering software such as ANSYS, MATLAB and CAD tools, particularly if they have limited previous experience. I also want to explore practical AI workshops focused on engineering applications, helping students learn how to use AI tools, evaluate their outputs and understand how these technologies are being used in industry.
