Rossita Maclean

Fair pay for PGTAs.

As a PhD student in Electrical Engineering who also completed my undergraduate degree at Queen’s, I have a good understanding of how our university operates. Driven by the belief that education and engineering should serve people over systems, I founded the Women in STEM society to empower underrepresented students throughout their academic journey here on campus. I plan to carry that belief into my role on the student council and use my experiences at Queen's to campaign for students.

If elected to the Student Council, my primary campaign priorities will be:

  • Fair Compensation: Securing fair pay for Postgraduate Teaching Assistants university-wide. Especially in the schools that have underpaid their PGTAs according to Queen's own policy.

  • Student Life & Societies: Empowering the student volunteers that run clubs and societies, to increase opportunity, autonomy and encourage postgraduate involvement.

  • Equity & Inclusion: Backing for women and underrepresented minority groups in postgraduate education.
