Experience You Can Count On — From Budgets to Building Communities!
Student societies are the backbone of engagement, community, and personal development at Queen’s. Societies are where students find belonging, build confidence, and create meaningful impact within their community. My commitment to strengthening societies is grounded in years of hands‑on experience across multiple committees, executive roles, and student‑led initiatives. I have worked in communications, wellbeing, finance, administration, and event organisation, and I am ready to bring that experience to the Students’ Union Council.
2025-2026
As Social Media Officer for QUB STAR, I supported communications between committee members, society members, and partnering organisations. I promoted the society’s initiatives to increase engagement and awareness, ensuring our message reached the wider student body. I also helped organise and facilitate a fundraising raffle in support of the ANAKA Women’s Collective, demonstrating my commitment to social impact and community partnership. This experience developed my organisation and communication skills.
As an Internal Mooting Panelist with the Mooting Society, I underwent a rigorous selection process and represented Queen’s University Belfast in competitions, including reaching the semi‑finals of the Nell McCafferty Mooting Competition at Maynooth University. This experience strengthened my advocacy skills, professionalism, and ability to represent student interests with clarity and confidence.
As a Stunt Cheerleader for Knights Cheerleading Club, I developed my skills as a base support cheerleader, worked closely with my stunt group to achieve our goals, and overcame physical obstacles. This experience showcased my resilience and my ability to work well within a team.
2026-2027
As Treasurer of QUB STAR, I oversee the society’s finances, ensuring that our volunteering projects, fundraising initiatives, and partnerships — including ANAKA Women’s Collective and Rainbow Refugees NI — have the resources they need to thrive and provide for vulnerable individuals. I actively seek new funding opportunities to support the society’s long‑term sustainability. This experience equips me to understand the financial challenges societies face and advocate for better support structures.
In my role as Wellbeing Officer for the Commercial Awareness Society, I assist with internal society affairs and ensure that both committee members and society members feel supported. When wellbeing concerns arise, I actively listen, respond sensitively, and signpost individuals to appropriate services. I believe that societies flourish when their members feel safe, heard, and valued.
As Secretary of the Knights Cheerleaders Club, I oversee the club's affairs, draft risk assessments, record meeting minutes, and collaborate with the executive team to organise events. I also work closely with the Treasurer to develop funding initiatives that increase accessibility for members who may otherwise be unable to afford participation. This role has strengthened my organisational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to inclusivity.
If elected to the Students’ Union Council, I will work to ensure that societies have the support, resources, and recognition they deserve. My priorities are:
1. Strengthening Support Systems for Committees
Committee members often carry heavy workloads. I will advocate for clearer guidance, better training, and more accessible SU support to help committees run effectively and sustainably.
2. Improving Funding Pathways and Transparency
Societies should not struggle to fund their initiatives. With my financial experience, I will push for streamlined funding processes, clearer criteria, and more opportunities for societies to access grants and sponsorship.
3. Enhancing Communication Between the SU and Societies
As they say, "Communication is Key".
Effective communication is essential. I will work to ensure societies receive timely updates, accessible information, and consistent support from the SU.
4. Prioritising Wellbeing and Inclusivity Across All Societies
Every student deserves to feel welcome and supported. I will advocate for wellbeing‑focused training, inclusive event planning, and accessible participation opportunities.
5. Celebrating the Impact of Student Societies
Societies contribute enormously to student life. I will champion their achievements, encourage cross‑society collaboration, and promote their work across campus.
I am committed to ensuring that every society at Queen’s has the tools, support, and recognition it needs to succeed - Vote Dammy!
