Candidate for the position of Students' Union Council - Sporting Clubs

Abigail Leverett

A voice for every club, big or small

Sporting clubs play a huge role in the university experience, and the students who keep them running deserve to feel supported. My aim is to make resources clearer and more accessible, so committees can spend less time navigating admin and more time doing what they love.

If elected, I want to focus on:

  • Club continuity and committee support during elections: Every new committee brings the opportunity for positive change, but taking over a role can be daunting when responsibilities aren't always clear. Rather than everyone having to figure things out from scratch each year, I propose creating a shared resource where tips and advice can be passed on to future committees.
  • Improving the process of setting up a club: Ensuring proposal deadlines are clearly communicated and timelines are realistic, making it easier for students to establish new clubs.
  • Listening and taking action: Advocating for sporting clubs by listening to their concerns, raising issues in meetings and ultimately pushing for practical improvements.
  • Improving the student experience: Helping create an environment where clubs can grow, committees feel supported, and more students can enjoy getting involved in sport.
