Building a more connected, transparent and supportive EEECS

whoami

Hi my name is Tim (some random CS student), and I'm currently a Computer Science course rep. This is my third year as a student rep and I am running to be your EEECS school rep next year. I would love the chance to bring your feedback into actionable change for the last year I will be at Queen's. I have a committee role in many SU societies such as Head of Events for QCS, Vice-President for QUB Esports and Founder for QUB RDAS (Rubber Duck Appreciation Society :P). This year, I want to use the experience I have to become your next EEECS school rep to build a connected, transparent and supportive structure for student voice within EEECS.

Key Initiatives

Connected and Transparent SVC Structure

As a school rep I will support more connected Student Voice Committee (SVC) structure where every student can feel involved in the feedback process. I plan to provide transparency where every student will be informed of issues discussed and changes implemented by the SVC.

Accessible Recorded Lectures

The pandemic has changed our approach in learning and EEECS has adopted a hybrid learning structure. However, there is very little consistency on how lectures are being delivered. I believe that a change must be made to implement a school wide standard for quality recorded lectures making it accessible and reduce the friction from navigating learning materials.

Improving Assignment Feedback

Assignments with missing/incomplete feedback causes unnecessary stress for students and hinders the students' ability to learn from their past work. Implementing a feedback framework will allow students to better benefit from their past assignments for them to improve their work before the next assignment.

Diversity and Inclusion Commission

EEECS is currently behind other QUB schools with the establishment of a Diverty and Inclusion Commission. The purpose of this commission is the ensure the school is doing its best the support their students with issues that occur, including discrimination and unfair treatment. The vision for this commission is for it to become a safe space for students to come to for their worries.

Food for Cost of Living Support

I'm a big food lover, but apart from that students are suffering from the Cost of Living Crisis and I plan to implement an initiative for the school to help. The transition from secondary education to university is a big change and with the Cost of Living Crisis hitting us I believe the school has a responsibility to support their students who are struggling. I want to implement more events where students can opt in the take part and receive food as support for the crisis. (More variety than just pizza, providing more choice for those with more specific diets) But yes, more food and maybe even get the vendor machines restocked.

Student Engagement

I plan to increase student engagement by turning students wants into actual changes within the school, giving students the power to make changes within the school to better their uni experience.

Opportunity Highlighting

Another area I would like to focus on is highlighting opportunities QUB has to and help students become more aware of which QUB programs they can apply for.

If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to contact me on my socials, or post on QUB Love that works too lol
