Vote Swati for Undergrad Rep! #SwatiForSMED

My name is Swati Joshi. I'm standing for the position of undergraduate school representative for the school of medicine, dentistry and biomedical sciences (SMED).

Motivation

My motivation is simple. I'm a 2nd year medical student. I have firsthand experience of the unique struggles faced by SMED students. I have faith in this university, and I am confident that by working collaboratively with the SU, staff and fellow students, we can continue with the great progress this university is making.

SWATI Objectives

S - Strengthening Teaching and Course Content: I am dedicated to ensuring high-quality teaching and course content for all SMED students. This will involve advocating for more frequent and anonymous evaluations of teaching, lecture materials, practicals, tutorials, and placements.

W - Widening Access to Resources: I want to ensure that students have access to updated resources for studying and completing assignments. I will advocate for the regular updating of educational portals or websites with relevant videos and information to support student learning.

A - Addressing Faulty Systems:  It's time to address some of the faulty systems within our university. I will push for improvements to difficult to navigate websites and faulty QR codes, ensuring that systems are reliable and effective for all.

T - Togetherness: Every student deserves to feel a sense of belonging within our community. I will advocate for staff education about religious events and practices and for the incorporation of cultural differences within our course content. I am committed to ensuring that students are accommodated during religious holidays.

I - Integrating Learning Opportunities: I will advocate for opportunities for integrated learning between all years and courses within SMED. Whether through lectures, case-based learning, or other innovative approaches, I want to bring the students of SMED together.

Why Swati?

As a former member of the student council in secondary school, wellbeing committee member and current facilitator for the peer support group medics4medics, I have firsthand experience in listening to student struggles and providing support.

As your representative, I will serve as an approachable voice of contact, keeping you informed about decisions made by the SU.

Thank you for reading my manifesto. Feel free to get in contact with me at sjoshi04@qub.ac.uk.
