Dia dhuit and Hello,

My name is Samar Ahmad and I am running to be your Student Officer for Undergraduate Education next year.

A little bit about myself...

I am currently a final year History and International Relations student and I have had my fair share of experiences as an undergraduate, both good and bad. My experiences make me the ideal candidate to represent you at Queen's becuase I understand the highs, lows and needs of being a student.

I am also quite persistent... so when I want something done, I will do everything in my power to make sure it happens!

I am already invloved with the university, being a Student Ambassador and Peer Mentor for my subject. I am also currently the Vice President of the History Society, and the Treasurer for Queen's Radio. I love going to the gym, using all the the PEC has to offer. It is my goal to ensure that policies concerning undergraduates are inclusive of all subject areas and cultures present at the university.

I will bring tenacity, positivity, and a fire to this role, working to make Queen's a better environment for all Undergraduates!!

My goals for the next year...

1. Consistent mark schemes and clear feedback from assessors

Have you ever felt like feedback from your assignments has been vague?

Have you ever been given a bad grade and felt like the comments are unjustified? 

Have you ever felt unprepared for an exam because you feel like examiners are not being specific about what they expect?

If you have felt all of these things, so have I. If you vote for me, I will work towards ensuring that marking completed across all subjects are consistent, and you are happy with the corresponding feedback that you receive.

2. Assignment bunching

Exam season is a struggle every year. There is the reoccurring issue of everything being due at the same time. And every year, nothing is done about it even though it is tough on the mental health of us students. As your Student Officer for Undergraduate Education, I will do my best to find the root cause of this problem and address it for future years.

3. Teaching and accountability with AI policies

Artificial Intelligence is something that is never going to go away. Our university should be establishing acceptable methods of use and teaching us undergrads how we can approporiately apply AI to improve our work. 

So many people have been falsely accused of using AI as well, so if accusations are made, processes of identifying how should be transparent to us students.

4. Better relationships between subject societies and courses

There is so much potential for our courses within Queen's to be working with subject societies, and I feel that is not being taken advantage of enough. 

I plan on creating an environment where subject societies and courses can work together to make the undergraduate experience better for students. I also want to create a support system where different subject years can interact with each other.

5. Coherent Canvas pages

Across all subjects, and even between different modules, Canvas has been difficult to navigate becuase all pages are put together differently. I will standardise how Canvas pages are structured to make it easier for students to find and complete their work.

6. Inclusivity, respect, and consideration for all cultures

Ensuring that university practices and courses are inclusive of students of all backgrounds is of utmost importance to me. As a champion for diversity, I will ensure that no students identity is ignored, making campus a welcoming environment for students no matter where they are from!!

If you choose me to be your Student Officer for Undergraduate Education for the next year, know that my door will always be open if you need any support throughout your time at Queen's. And if you have any feedback for me on how I can do better for you, I will always welcome it.
