I’m Dermot Hamill, I’m from South Armagh and I want to be your First Year Representative.

In December 2019 I launched Youth Voice NI, a podcast and blog giving young people a voice in politics. Through the podcast I’ve had the opportunity to interview the biggest names in NI politics including 4 executive party leaders and Ministers from both the London and Belfast governments.

I’m a committed activist and have dedicated countless hours fighting for equality and change. I’ve appeared on National media discussing the Irish Language, the 2021 Exam Crisis as well as fighting to improve education for our students.

In July 2021 I was elected to represent students on the International Stage for the Secondary Students’ Union of NI. I’ve fought to improve classroom conditions during Covid, examinations as well as political education and ensuring NI students are prepared for a more global world.

Students deserve better than the status quo, the cost of living is hitting students with no support coming from MLAs on the Hill or MPs in London.

As your Student Council Representative I would fight to tackle the Cost of Living Crisis, call for greater support for student mental health and well-being, as well as fight to create a more equal and just University and to oppose the inequality and the bigotry seen on campus.

If Queen’s insists on remaining silent on the Cost of Living, on student Mental Health and on hate then it’s time we lead this fight ourselves as students. We cannot bury our heads and hope politicians do something about the issues facing us, it’s time for genuine activism.

A vote for Dermot Hamill is a vote for change, it’s a vote for experienced representation, a vote for an activist with a proven track record of successful campaigning. A vote for an activist that will fight for students.
