Candidate for the position of Students' Union Council - AHSS Representative (Undergraduate)

Deirbhile Flynn

The future of QUB is in the hands of its students.

Hi there, my name is Deirbhile and I am a Level 2 Law with Spanish student. My experience at university so far has been rewarding. However, this year I would like to take the opportunity to participate more in the development of our university.

Every student deserves to be heard. As a student councillor, I would endeavour to amplify any issues or concerns raised by students in order to improve their overall university experience. Equality and diversity are core fundamental values instilled within QUB. This is why it is crucial that every student, regardless of race, sex, nationality, political affiliation or disability can feel comfortable enough to be heard by the Student Council.

I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and helping them with any queries they may have. For example, this year I am acting as a Law Peer Mentor. In this role, I have come to realise the value of a friendly face and being a good listener. This is why I feel as though the role of a Student Councillor would be fitting to me because I want to help others raise their visibility within the QUB community by putting forward their ideas, whilst representing and supporting them.

Solidarity between us students is essential for the development of our university. A diverse and culturally enriched place provides opportunities for new experiences and personal growth. This is why no one should ever be afraid to put forward new ideas for societies, events, or even general teaching.

As a student myself, I too am experiencing 'university life' and I am always open to trying new things and meeting new people. Realistically, we are all in the same boat, hence why students can come to me with any queries or suggestions which I will ensure to pass on to the Student Union Council.

Many thanks for your time and consideration.  I hope to be able to work closely with you and  the Student Council to make this year a great one!
