My name is Eoin and I'm living in BT9. I'm fortunate now to live in student accomodation, as I spent the last four years sleeping on a couch in Dublin. Belfast, luckily, isn't in as bad a situation but we've still got problems to face.
Our rent is going to get more and more expensive and the quality of the service we're going to get isn't going to reflect that. In BT9, we've been given a credit on our energy bill but this is based off what the price of energy used to be and there is a very real fear that most of us are going to run out before the end of the year. Our costs will just keep going up. The union is well-placed to engage with the University on these issues and we need people within it who can represent us well.
I've previously served as a course rep and a member of the electoral commission (the equivalent of SU Voice) in Trinity College Dublin Student's Union. I've run student societies and represented them to capitations committees and fought for funding. I've also run sports clubs and been involved in the moderation and promotion of student publications.
I believe that this experience makes me well-qualified to represent students within the union. We can work together to have safer, better accommodation available to us. Please consider voting for me!
