Whether you’ve played AFL before or have never picked up an oval ball, QUB AFL welcomes everyone! We are a friendly and social club open to both men and women of all abilities, and you don’t need any previous experience to get involved. Our training is designed to teach new players the game from scratch, while giving experienced players the chance to develop their skills and enjoy playing competitively.

We currently have one men’s team and one women’s team, competing in university competition for the Fitzpatrick Cup, with our men’s team lifting the trophy in 2022. We are also looking to continue growing our women’s team, so it’s a great time to get involved and help build the team.

AFL at Queen’s also provides an exciting pathway for players looking to take their game beyond university competition. QUB players have the opportunity to progress into the Redbacks, the Irish Champions in 2026, and the Ulster Wolfhounds, who compete at European level, including the Euro Cup. For our women’s players, there is also a pathway into the Kookaburras, who have recently re-established their women’s team. Members of the club has also received invitations from other teams to prestigious tournaments across the UK and Europe, including the AFL Europe Champions League in Lyon, Copa de Barcelona in Barcelona, the Euro Cup and the Haggis Cup in Glasgow. These opportunities highlight the growing profile of QUB AFL and give players the chance to continue developing their skills and take their AFL further beyond university.

We train once a week, with sessions focused on learning, improving and having fun. Whether you’re looking for a new sport, want to keep active, or simply want to meet new people, there’s no better time to give AFL a try.

Off the pitch, the club is all about the social side. We regularly organise nights out and social events, making QUB AFL a great way to meet people and make friends throughout your time at university.
