QUB Cavaliers In Need focuses on raising funds and awareness for the charity Cavaliers In Need. This charity provides foster homes for dogs in need, many of which come from harrowing conditions in puppy farms and often require urgent medical care. All of the funds raised by the society go directly to Cavaliers In Need.
The previous academic year the society has organised four Cuddle Days, bringing Cavaliers In Need dogs to the Student’s Union for students and staff to cuddle for a small donation. These events regularly see between 300-400 QUB staff and students visit the dogs and raise a substantial amount for Cavaliers In Need.
Volunteering is accredited and recognised as part of degree plus and provides members opportunities to improve their communication and teamworking skills through interacting with other members, charity volunteers, and the staff and students attending fundraising events. Furthermore, for students passionate about animal welfare, you can make a tangible impact by volunteering with the society.
The society also ran a joint event with Dragonslayers, which saw a puppy café at Q-Con and conducted several successful social media campaigns, including a pet Halloween costume competition.
These events provide students with an opportunity to destress from exams and university deadlines and make a hugely positive impact on student wellbeing. Many students living away from home miss their own pets and are delighted by the opportunity to cuddle rescue dogs on campus. Students themselves are also interested to hear about Cavaliers In Need’s work while attending cuddle days, enabling the society to raise awareness.
