About

OUR SOCIETY

The Connolly Youth Society was formed to give a voice to the student youth on our campus who feel disenfranchised and ignored by the parties of the bourgeois political establishment. We represent those on our campus who aspire to the establishment of a 32-county socialist republic dedicated to the everyday person and to the emancipation of all oppressed peoples across the world.

We actively study Marxism-Leninism and apply it concretely to the conditions of Ireland. Inspired by the works of Marx, Engels, Lenin and James Connolly, we seek to struggle against the social injustices that plague the occupied 6 counties by building a movement to carry out the joint struggle for national and social liberation. As such, we are opposed to class oppression, national oppression and the oppression of women and the queer community, working to see awareness of these oppressions raised among the student consciousness until they are fully eliminated.

The CYS is also fully committed to the promotion of Irish language, culture and history through the promotion of Gaelicism. This will be achieved through the carrying out of free Irish language lessons, social activities and day trips to historic locations in order to educate and engage with our national culture.

The CYS is dedicated to the establishment of the Irish Socialist Republic: a Republic that is free of sectarianism, racism, sexism and the artificial, partitionist divisions that divide the working class of our island. We uphold that it is in the interest of the working class to break the connection with England, maintaining that the people of Ireland will not be free until the whole wealth of Irish society, natural and productive, and from the plough to the stars, is firmly in the hands of the working class of all 32 counties of Ireland.

We have full solidarity with the Palestinian resistance in their struggle against the ongoing genocide carried out by the Zionist entity. We stand for a one-state solution and the total decolonisation of the region. As such, the CYS will partake in various events and activities to promote and raise awareness for this cause.

EVENTS

The Connolly Youth Society will engage in a wide and diverse range of events across the campus in order to educate, raise awareness and engage with people at all levels of student life. These events that we will engage in will include, but are not limited to:

  • The Red Reading Group, including:
  1. Anti-Imperialism
  2. Feminism
  3. Republicanism
  4. Marxism
  • Film Screenings
  • Educationals
  • Day-Trips
