About

QUB Dance consists of QUB Dance Classes and QUB Dance Team.

QUB Dance Classes

We host weekly dance classes in a range of genres for students of all abilities and experience. These take place on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm to 4pm and are taken by members of the Dance Team.
The Team member teaching the class will be in a PEC studio and will be streaming the class on Microsoft Teams so that Class members can participate whilst keeping safe and reducing the spread of Covid19. Class members with PEC memberships will be able to attend these in person if they wish, as long as a Covid Questionnaire has been completed and social distancing guidelines can be adhered to. This will be assessed on a weekly basis and class members will be kept informed of any changes.
Students who want to sign up to classes and pay per term can do so for £20 per term. Alternatively, students can pay £4 per class.
Class members will be invited to perform in our annual showcase which takes place at the end of semester 2, giving members the opportunity to work towards a group routine and perform in front of an audience.

QUB Dance Team

On Thursday 1st October we will be releasing our audition videos for any students who would like to try out for the Team. Prospective Team members will have until Tuesday 5th October to return their audition videos before the committee selects the Team for 2020/21. There will be more information on the auditions on our social media pages - Facebook and Instagram.
This year, you will be able to audition for the following styles of dance:
Jazz
Contemporary
Hiphop
Tap
Ballet
There is a 3 dance limit per dancer so you can audition for as many as you like but will only be selected for the ones the committee believes you are best suited for.
Team rehearsals will be Tuesday and Wednesday nights. At the minute, the committee is trying to locate a space that will facilitate the numbers on the Team - due to Covid19 restrictions, studios are able to hold far less people than they normally would. Once rehearsal times and location have been confirmed, this information will be made available. Every year the Team competes in intervarsity competitions across the UK. This year we are hoping to travel to University of Newcastle for its competition on 27th February.
Before attending rehearsals all Team members will be required to complete a Covid Questionnaire to ensure everyone is well and keeping one another safe.

Events

QUB Dance hosts our very own Strictly Come Dancing every December. Team members are the 'professionals' and students from other Queen's clubs & societies are the 'celebrities'. This is a really fun way for friendships to form and to get people involved in dance. This is a fundraising event for QUB Dance but also involves raising money for charity; charities from last year's event include MS Society, Brain Injury Matters and SOS Bus. The committee is currently unsure if we will be able to go ahead with this event this year due to current restrictions so keep an eye on our social media platforms for updates.
QUB Dance also hosted our first Take Me Out last year and we would love to make this an annual event. QUB Dance will team up with another Queen's club or society for an evening of fun and maybe even a little romance. Again, the committee will be assessing the feasibility of the event going ahead and will keep social media platforms updated.
