About

The Economics society focuses on three elements: academic, social, and personal development:

  • Through academic orientated trips and events, we hope to increase the economic literacy of members in the society and engage our members with relevant economic issues.
  • Our social aspect focuses on inclusivity, by bringing together society members who might not have met in other roads of life and share a common interest in economics.
  • Finally, we want our members to really get something tangible from our society, so we will be signposting economics related careers (and careers events) and internships, providing information on applications, and creating a network for our members to support each other throughout their study.

We aim to enhance the student experience by providing students with the opportunity to pursue their economic interest outside the lecture theatre with a group of like-minded people. By attending our events and trips, you will benefit in a number of ways. You will gain insights into potential career pathways by hearing from practicing economists and university alumni. You will also gain knowledge that could improve their understanding of their modules that will be reflected by their assignment grades. Furthermore, all members will benefit from having a wider network of friends and contacts that will make your time at Queen’s more enjoyable and hopefully these contacts will be useful once they enter the job market.

What to expect this year:

  • Merchandising: This year we are giving the society a fresh look with a new logo design and accompanying branding. We intent to roll this out with a line of merchandise clothing which the society has been lacking in previous years.
  • Socials: We plan on hosting a number of meet ups and pub crawls around Belfast so students can meet different year groups and have fun along the way.
  • Careers: We aim to host a number of talks with employers throughout the year if possible to give members an insight into potential jobs and careers available to them with an economics degree
  • Talks: TBA
