About

The QUB Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society aims to enrich learning and spark interest in the dynamic field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, while also exploring related areas of medicine such as women’s health, non-binary health, sexual health, and psychiatry. Revitalised last year following a period of inactivity, the society is continuing to grow with plans for new events, wider promotion, and stronger professional contacts.

Our key goals and planned activities for 2025/26 are:

  • Provide early exposure to Obstetrics and Gynaecology across all years of study, complementing the limited six-week reproductive health placement in fourth year.
  • Strengthen interdisciplinary engagement by including students from nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, and other allied healthcare disciplines.
  • Collaborate with different medical societies to promote multidisciplinary teamwork and shared learning.
  • Deliver a flagship Obstetrics & Gynaecology conference and relaxed networking evenings to support professional development.
  • Host charitable fundraising initiatives and community outreach projects to strengthen links with the wider community.

These goals and activities will enhance the student experience at QUB by broadening access to a competitive, content-heavy specialty at an earlier stage of medical training, fostering collaboration across healthcare disciplines, and creating opportunities for professional networking. Community outreach and fundraising initiatives will further enrich student life by encouraging teamwork, social responsibility, and engagement beyond strict teaching. By supplementing the curriculum, the society will help students make more informed career decisions and develop skills that will improve future patient care.
