About

RDAS aims to help those with an interest in Ducks or Rubber Ducks together by posting and sharing pictures with eachother. We aim to help people without a hobby get out and doing something together with fellow students with a similar interest in ducks. We plan to take our ducks everywhere on campus, taking photos and writing stories together to build a wholesome community. We plan to collaborate with other societies who are struggling with getting numbers for events by providing “Duck Raids”. These events will be hosted in  collaboration with other societies to let RDAS members into their events to see what their  society is about. Allowing our community to expand their interest and explore different hobbies without having to commit to one without fully knowing what it is all about

RDAS started as a small group of friends during our upper sixth days when we all went to the same secondary school, and since coming to Queens we have found that there are quite a large number of people who share our fondness of rubber ducks and would benefit from an official society where they can meet other people with the same interest.

The main goal of the proposed society is to give people a space to indulge in all things related to Rubber Ducks, which we think could really enhance the Queens university experience for people from all walks of life. Activities of the society will include, sharing photos with rubber ducks, travelling to new locations with rubber ducks and allowing new people to gain a bit more positivity in their lives and time at queens by learning to appreciate something so cheerful and simple. We could also hold themed Quizzes and online games. As committee members we would like to hide a couple ducks around common QUB areas - such as the DKB or the Student Union and challenge members to find the duck and return it to a committee member within the week - if not found we would reveal the location and move it, thus ensuring no ducks would be forgotten and lead to unintentional abandonment or littering, this would encourage members to explore the Queens campus and be more social.

Students who take part in our activities will find themselves taking part in new experiences and hopefully go on to have more confidence in trying things that they wouldn't usually choose to do in their day to day lives.

We would be open to allowing members of our society to make suggestions on what rubber duck activities we could hold in the future.

Some of our biggest plans for the group is to collaborate with the Esports society and hold Monthly Duck raids on their streams, so that we can introduce more people to each society, possibly giving people who wouldn't usually interact with that kind of group a chance to make new friends and expand their range of experiences at Queens.

This can be expanded to other societies, thus allowing more people to interact with people outside of their usual social circles and school of study.

We would also like to encourage members of the group to partake in our daily duckumentaries where they can share pictures of their ducks and create small short stories of the antics they and their duck/s got into that day.

All students at queens will be welcome to join, regardless of school of study, religious denomination and cultural background - it will be an open minded group that aims to improve the queens experience for all.

As committee members we would look out for our members, especially on our proposed society group chat, and prevent any type of bullying or harassment.

Overall we aim to create a group that can simply enjoy the little things in life, and allow an outlet for the appreciation of rubber ducks  all the while encouraging our members to do more in life and go out and experience everything that Queens can offer - even if those things would usually be outside of their comfort zones.

Sustainability
We understand that it's important to consider the sustainability aspects of the items we enjoy. While we appreciate and share a fondness for rubber ducks, we also recognize the need to be environmentally conscious.

In our society, we encourage responsible practices and aim to minimize any negative impact. Rather than promoting excessive consumption, we encourage reusing and enjoying rubber ducks for a long time.

By taking care of our rubber ducks and passing them on to others or finding new creative uses, we can reduce waste. As we are fond of our little duck friends, we make sure to never abandon them!

While we celebrate the joy and simplicity that Rubber Ducks bring to our community, we are committed to fostering a mindful and environmentally conscious approach. We appreciate your concerns and welcome any suggestions on how we can further promote sustainable practices within our society. Our society also appreciations real ducks and birds alike! If you have any more questions or would like to discuss this, please feel free to reach out. We believe that open dialogue and constructive feedback are key to making positive changes.
