About

Welcome to Scrubs! Learn what we're about and get involved!

About Scrubs

Scrubs was set up in 2004 by Queen's University Belfast Medical students and has had a successful 20 years and counting! The society has been voted Academic Society of the Year three times at the Student's Union Awards (2011, 2015 and 2017).

We have also spoken at national conferences like the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) in 2025 and are on the national Future Surgeons Forum created by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Our aim is to fill a gap in healthcare education by allowing students to get hands on opportunities (such as fixing broken bones, replacing an aortic valve, learn airway skills and suturing) to instill confidence in the current healthcare students so that they can become confident healthcare professionals of the future.

Throughout the year, we host numerous events including:

  • OSCE practice days
  • The Emergency Medicine Conference (EMC)
  • The Surgical Skills Conference
  • Suturing Workshops (including laparoscopic skills)
  • Careers talks
  • Talks on topics such as Women in Surgery, Resident Doctors and Intercalation
  • Talks on academic medicine and surgery
  • Networking nights like Behind the Scalpel and Women in Surgery
  • Inter-collegiate competitions like SimWars and the RCSI Case Competition and Surgical Skills Competition

Get Involved!

Membership is open to all QUB Medical students in every year group and provides a range of opportunities to get involved in unique workshops such as discounted event tickets or allowing you into revision classes for free.
