A bit about SWOT…
The Students Working Overseas Trust is a charitable society run entirely by fourth year medical students, operating under Queen’s University Belfast, a registered charity (Charity No. 101788). SWOT fundraises for the provision of essential medical supplies in low-income country hospitals. During medical elective placements at the end of year 4, students bring SWOT funds abroad and use them to buy medical equipment that meet the specific needs of each hospital.
SWOT’s approach to this is unique as it allows for a personalised method of delivering charitable medical aid, fulfilling specific equipment requests from the hospitals in which students are placed.
The direct delivery of aid by our 4th years is a strength of our society, as it differs from the more generalised approach to aid distribution seen in some larger charities, which may miss niche areas of need that SWOT seeks to fulfil.
Each year we arrange a variety of fundraisers such as the Toga Party, Blood Pressure Clinics, Christmas Market street collections, run clubs, craft evenings and much more! Our annual Fashion Show also raised £45,000 alone in 2025! SWOT puts the FUN in FUNdraising and will continue to do so throughout this year! Please keep an eye on our instagram for updates on events and exciting opportunities; @swotqub. We look forward to sharing a fantastic year of fundraising for a great cause with you.
