I believe a world where we advocate for one another would be a better one. I will stand up for this unseen person equally as much as those who have high profiles and strive to make queens of more equitable place. Let me be your voice!
Having worked previously in human resources I have skills working as an advocate that i can apply to this role. Let me use the transferable skills I acquired to ensure students concerns are taken into consideration. I will comminicate your needs as a student whether they affect me personally or not. Every student desserves to be visable and heard, yet due to the number of students it is not possible for every student to attend committees and meetings. This is why it is important to have someone serve you well.
As a mature student rep on the student voice committee I was able ro communicate the complex needs of those who care for children, elders etc. even though I myself am not affected by that and done so with great success. The reasons I want ro help are not self serving but rather ro make student experience better at queens. I have no aspirations or agend but just want to serve.
Testimonials
1- I am an international student from China. I was lonely and helpless when I came studying at Queens, since I was the only Chinese in group and class. Then I met Claire, a nice and warm hearted woman. She once helped me solve academic difficulties and overcome language difficulties, and gave me strong support in a presentation. She provided me with crucial help when I was confused and struggling in my studies, and made an international student feel cared and warm in a foreign country. Her sincere kindness is precious, and I hope it can help more people in need. Zijie
2 - Claire is one of the most authentic, approachable and hard working ladies I have ever met. The first to go out of her way to help another whom she feels is struggling in the slightest. I am one of the many who suffer from imposter syndrome and Claire helped me in ways she will never realise, I was close to not submitting a piece of work as I didn’t feel capable but one evening she sat beside me in the library and reset my thinking on the scenario. She genuinely cares, her mission is not for self gain, but solely for the good of others and that in itself is enough for me to want her as our school rep. Shiela
3 - Claire is a caring, driven and encouraging classmate. Through working with her in group projects I have seen her willingness to take up any role and help others in their role too. She is never hesitant to help anyone and always checks up on how everyone is too. She always sends me a message to ask me how I’m getting on in general and with assignments and goes out of her way to help me when I’m in need. Her creativity, drive to do help others and caring manner are just three of the many admirable attributes Claire possesses! Lucy
4 - Claire advocated for mature students with caring responsibilities during the last year on the student voice committee. She really ensured that the faculty understood the problems that can sometimes cause a mature student to fall behind or temporarily need an extension. She did this even though she does not have caring responsibilities herself and so had nothing to gain. Karlene
5 - Claire is confident, friendly and goes above and beyond for other students. She helped me and another member of our tutorial group with our informal presentation. The presentation was unmarked and therefore didn’t have any benefit to her yet she still went out of her way to make sure we were confident and prepared. Ebony
