Candidate for the position of Internal Medicine Society - Year 2 Representatives

The students of today, soon the doctors of tomorrow as one cohort and one voice !

What experience do I have that would help me be successful with this role ? 

- I have had a lot of experience in representative roles from being a prefect in school, to being the MHLS faculty representative for 2022-2023

-I have been able to become familiar enough with my fellow peers and students and due to my role I have been able to be a person that hears peoples’ opinions and issues and take them up with members of staff

-As a proactive person and one that enjoys speaking to other, I would be able to discuss with fellow students on how we could further improve ideas or events that the society is conducting and while working collaboratively with other society committee members so that as a society we could be of more benefit for the society members

- Coming from an international background I may be able to provide new ideas to the committee of creative or novel ways of delivering content or having events

- Lastly all my prior experiences with collaborative work have provided me with the necessary team working and communication skills so that I could be a valuable asset to the team

Why do I have an interest in this role ? 

- After a short period of time in medical school I have realized my curiosity and love for many aspects of medicine and throughout this period and researching different specialities as well as reflecting back on shadowing experiences I have slowly developed an eagerness for internal medicine and I hope to be able to delve deeper into it by gaining experience from other students (representatives) on their views of internal medicine

- I would like to be involved in the organisation of  events educating other students on it so that I could help students like me learn about it and maybe find a speciality they may have not known about

- Furthermore as part of wanting to not just academically grow during my journey in medical school I hope to enhance and gain interpersonal skills, organisation and communication skills as part of my role

- Finally getting to meet fellow medical students, getting to learn from them and simply getting to be a part of the community at QUB

What skills have I gained that will help me with this role ?

- From previous experience being a team member as student council being able to actively listen to others and knowing how to compromise to come to a collective solution or conclusion

- I have the ability to delegate effectively while also being a role model myself by fulfilling my delegated task to the highest level and punctually

- I understand the importance of brain storming as a team and democracy in terms of taking in all the possible ideas and collectively analysing to find the best option for the entire team to ensure optimal success

- Coming from an international and diverse background I have learnt to respects different cultures, beliefs and opinions

For Peer 2 Peer teaching what experience do I have with clinical teaching ? 

As part of my first year, for my SSC I did learning to teach which has educated me on the importance of preparation of a lecture, the different steps to ensure successful teaching, how to write learning objectives and more. Not only so but the delivery of drug research studies as presentations in pharmacology tutorials as a team has enabled me to gain experience with presenting medical studies in a clear and concise manner while exploring the different aspects and necessary details like the limitations, results, outcomes and more. Additionally as a previous scouts leader I have provided sessions on first aid to 12-14 year olds as well for survival skills teaching.
