Bringing confidence, accessibility and transparency to C.O.N.N.E.C.T EEECS.
Who Am I
Hi, my name is Tom, and I am currently a first year Computer Science student who hails from the North Coast. I am currently a course rep and hold committee roles in both QCS and ElevateNI. These roles have given me a unique perspective on the needs and challenges of our student body. I would love the chance to bring this experience along with my enthusiasm and commitment to the table to help bring about positive change as your school rep, to C.O.N.N.E.C.T EEECS.
My Goals
- Improved Wifi Connectivity throughout EEECS
- Teaching Workshops for Lecturers
- Standardise Canvas Layout
- Livestreamed Lectures
- Student Voted Events
- A Pool Table
- A CONNECTed EEECS
Cultivating confidence through connectivity
In the rapidly evolving field of Computer Science, practical knowledge is just as important as theoretical understanding. I plan to boost your confidence by bridging the gap between academia and industry, whether it be through regular workshops, seminars, or networking events with industry professionals, I plan to provide real-world insights and give you the opportunity to learn from those already working in the field, so you can gain the knowledge you deserve.
Optimising Accessibility
In response to public transport strikes and the cost-of-living crisis, I plan to implement a customised system for livestreaming lectures. This ensures that regardless of location or financial situation, every student will have equal access to valuable learning opportunities. Education should be a right, not a privilege, and I am committed to making this a reality for all EEECS students.
Navigating change through Action Transparency
As a course rep, I recognise the importance of clear and open communication. While SVC meeting minutes are published and displayed on screens around EEECS, it should be clearer to see the action that has been taken due to your feedback. I plan to enhance transparency by making a public list of readable actions, reinforcing the value of your input, so you can see the change you bring to EEECS.
Nurturing Seamless Learning
This academic year marked the first year that all lectures have been recorded and made available for revision and accessibility. However, finding these lectures and other course materials can sometimes be a challenge. By working collaboratively with lecturers and EEECS, I am committed to standardizing the organization and structure of course content on Canvas. This effort aims to create a seamless learning experience, ensuring that all materials are easily accessible, providing a more efficient and enjoyable academic journey.
Enhancing Support
Your personal projects are important, and I’m dedicated to ensuring you have the support you deserve. I will improve communication to provide you with comprehensive information about resources available for initiatives like QLab. My goal is to make the support system within EEECS more transparent and accessible to enable everyone to pursue and excel in their chosen field.
Community Engagement through weekly updates
To foster a stronger community, I plan to establish a comprehensive weekly update system. This system will compile information on all events within EEECS and its diverse societies. By keeping everyone in the loop, I aim to enhance engagement and ensure that every voice matters in our vibrant community.
Technological Stability for Seamless Learning
In our digital age, reliable connectivity is essential for a seamless learning experience. Recognizing the challenges created by connectivity issues, I am committed to enhancing Wi-Fi infrastructure and expanding coverage throughout all EEECS buildings. This aims to always ensure a stable and uninterrupted connection, allowing you to access everything you need without any disruptions.
