Your Voice, My Commitment.

Coming into this position for 2023/24, I made you a big promise.

I promised to help faciliate teamwork among students with workshops, collaborative career schemes, and more.

Find me on Instagram, @TheLovelyFaithW, to see exactly how I have followed through on them, as well as what I have done in the midst of pursuing or completeing them.

For a quick-look, some accompishments done within my time have been...

  1. Sona Systems for Level 2 Group Projects:

    • Enhanced the availability of Sona Systems for Level 2 group projects, expanding opportunities for First-Years to engage in SONA studies earlier.
    • Streamlined participant recruitment and study management, offering a valuable resource for CVs and placement interviews.
  2. Student Voice Committee (SVC) Enhancements:

    • Instituted in-person recaps for Years one and two after SVC meetings, and virtual messages for Year three.
    • Ensured transparency in discussing student feedback, changes, and proposals, illustrating our commitment to action.
  3. Conceptualization of Student Workshops:

    • Presented the concept of student workshops to the Faculty of Education at EPS, soliciting feedback for further refinement.
    • Scheduled as an upcoming SVC agenda point, demonstrating my ongoing dedication to promises made.

While I say this, your staff and course representatives have played fundamental roles in pushing these changes and hearing your voices.

So while I ask you to reflect on what has been done in my time as School Rep., I stress that none of it has ever been a one-woman job.

So when I ask you to vote for me, I ask you to trust that your voice will remain my committment. That I will continue to start the conversation among students and staff at every whisper of feedback I hear in lecture halls and the student common room.

In my time as your school representative, I've found that collaboration is not the only bridge that needs some attention.

If I had the pleasure to work with staff and course representatives again for the next school representative, I'd spearhead two projects:

Peer-Review Support Groups: Are you getting enough out of your assessment feedback? How many additional resources have you used?

I aim to create student-led group events where students can collaborate with others to give peer-review feedback on upcoming assignments. Through peer-review support groups, students will be able to improve grammar, punctuation, and writing styles by allowing more eyes to scan for errors.

If weekly readings prove difficult, another great way to expand your understanding of a topic is to read other perspectives; and who best to do this with if not the people in the same program as you? This could potentially help improve marks and allow students to get more feedback than the limited, sometimes confusing, feedback provided by markers.

Staff-Student Communication: Did you know what an SVC was? Do you know what the feedback cycle looks like before it gets back to you?

With concerns of feedback, accessibility for students with disabilities, and previous SVC outcomes, it has become apparent to me that there lies an issue with student-staff communication. Due to this, I plan to bridge the communication gap between students and staff, fostering a more transparent and inclusive feedback cycle. Students should understand why things happen in their course, and staff will benefit from students understanding these processes.
