Having held multiple student leadership positions, including my work as a Programme Representative and various roles in student societies, I am well-versed in understanding and voicing the concerns of my peers. I plan to bring this experience into the role to ensure that accommodation services are continuously improved, with a particular focus on issues such as affordability, safety, maintenance, and the overall wellbeing of residents.
A key priority will be to work on improving the maintenance system by advocating for faster response times to repair requests and ensuring that accommodation facilities are safe, functional, and conducive to students' overall wellbeing. I will also push for greater accountability when maintenance issues persist and aim to establish clearer feedback mechanisms so students’ concerns are addressed promptly.
Inclusivity is another crucial aspect I intend to prioritize. I will advocate for more culturally sensitive housing options, ensuring that students from different religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds feel welcome and supported. This includes advocating for designated spaces within accommodation where students can participate in cultural activities and celebrations, such as religious observances, festivals, and social events. For Muslim students and other cultural groups, having access to dedicated spaces for activities like prayers, cultural gatherings, and important celebrations will help foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
All in all, I aim to represent the concerns of students, listen to their feedback, and advocate for changes that reflect their needs at Queen’s Accommodation.
