Your Voice, Your Future: Empowering PGR Students to Shape Their Education. Together, we can enhance your research journey, amplify your concerns, and ensure that your voice is heard at every level.

I believe in the importance of students shaping their own educational experience. Having served as a representative at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the SSESW (School of Social Sciences, Education, and Social Work), I have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities students face. My experiences as an SSESW undergraduate course rep, school rep, and postgraduate rep have equipped me with the skills to effectively represent students and collaborate with both the university and the Students’ Union.

During my time as a representative, I have:

  • Actively communicated with students to gather their feedback on academic and non-academic matters.
  • Advocated for their needs at school and university-wide meetings.
  • Worked collaboratively with university staff to address key issues, including assessment methods, course content, and available resources.

These experiences have not only helped me build relationships with students and staff but also fostered a culture of open communication and transparency within SSESW. I have a proven track record of amplifying student voices and driving positive changes in education.

As your PGR Faculty Representative, my focus will be on ensuring that the voices of postgraduate research students in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are heard and acted upon. My key priorities are:

  1. Student Voices at the Core
During faculty-level meetings, I will actively gather feedback from PGR students to address their concerns about assessments, resources, and supervision. I will create platforms for students to share their views, whether through surveys, focus groups, or informal discussions, and I will ensure that this feedback is communicated to the relevant university bodies.

  2. Improving the PGR experience
I will collaborate closely with course reps and school reps to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing the PGR student experience, ranging from research support and professional development opportunities to mental health and well-being services. I am committed to ensuring that postgraduate research students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed in their studies and research.

  3. Transparency and communication
I will ensure that the decisions made at faculty-level meetings are communicated back to students in a clear and timely manner. This includes providing regular updates through newsletters and engaging with students via social media and other digital platforms. Transparency in decision-making is essential to building trust between students and the university.

  4. Collaboration with the Students’ Union
I will maintain regular communication with the Students’ Union, working alongside the SU Voice team and relevant Student Officers to ensure that PGR issues are part of the broader conversation on academic representation and university policies. My goal is to contribute to initiatives that enhance the PGR experience at Queen’s University.

I believe my experience, commitment to student advocacy, and collaborative approach make me an ideal candidate for AHSS PGR Faculty Representative. If elected, I will continue to ensure that PGR students are valued partners in shaping the policies and procedures that impact their education and research. I am excited about the opportunity to represent you and work towards a better academic experience for all PGR students.

Thank you for your support!
