Uniting Voices, Creating Change – Representing Every Student at Queen's!

Introduction: Hello everyone! My name is Muhammad Haris, and I am running to be your All Student Representative on the Students' Union Council at Queen's University Belfast. I believe in the power of community and the importance of a student-led approach to decision-making. I am committed to ensuring that all voices are heard, and that Queen's becomes a place where every student can thrive, feel valued, and be empowered to succeed.

Vision: My vision is to build a more inclusive, connected, and supportive campus where students from every background, program, and year group feel represented. I am dedicated to making sure our Students' Union works for everyone and that decisions reflect the diversity of our student body.

Key Objectives:

  1. Representation for All:

    • Serve as a strong voice for every student, ensuring that concerns and suggestions from all corners of the student community are heard and acted upon.
    • Establish open communication channels where students can easily reach out, voice their concerns, and share ideas.
    • Ensure that student diversity is fully represented in the council, from undergraduate to postgraduate students, international students, and students of all identities.
  2. Enhancing Academic Experience:

    • Advocate for continuous improvement in the quality of teaching and academic resources, focusing on areas such as curriculum flexibility, assessment fairness, and accessible learning materials.
    • Promote better access to academic support services for all students, such as tutoring, study workshops, and library resources.
    • Encourage the development of new initiatives that support students' academic journey, including mentoring programs and peer-assisted study sessions.
  3. Support for Well-being and Mental Health:

    • Push for more accessible mental health and well-being services to cater to the diverse needs of students, ensuring that help is available when needed.
    • Promote well-being campaigns that help students deal with academic pressures, stress, and personal challenges, ensuring that no one feels isolated.
    • Work with the university to implement initiatives that create a healthier work-life balance for students, including stress management programs and more well-being-focused activities.
  4. Building a Stronger Community:

    • Foster an inclusive environment where every student feels welcomed, regardless of their background, nationality, or identity.
    • Promote social and cultural events that celebrate our diversity, encouraging greater cross-cultural understanding and connection among students.
    • Work to improve engagement and participation in Students' Union activities and events, making sure everyone has opportunities to get involved.
  5. Improving Student Services and Facilities:

    • Advocate for improvements in on-campus facilities, including study spaces, recreational areas, and student accommodation, to enhance the overall university experience.
    • Work closely with the university to address issues such as campus safety, access to resources, and infrastructure improvements that affect students' day-to-day lives.
  6. Clear Communication and Transparency:

    • Ensure that students are kept informed about decisions made by the Students' Union Council and the reasons behind them.
    • Use multiple communication channels—such as social media, newsletters, and in-person forums—to keep everyone updated and gather feedback from students.
    • Maintain a transparent approach to decision-making, ensuring that all council activities and discussions are accessible to students.

Conclusion: As your All Student Representative, I am committed to being an active, approachable, and effective advocate for every student at Queen's University Belfast. I am passionate about working with you to make a real difference—to tackle issues that matter, to celebrate our diversity, and to ensure that the Students' Union is a true representation of us all. Together, we can create an enriching, supportive, and vibrant university experience for everyone.

I kindly ask for your support in this journey. Let’s come together to make our voices heard and to shape the future of Queen's for the better.

Thank you!
