About Me
Hi, my name is Naomi and it's lovely to meet you!
I’m running to be School of Nursing and Midwifery undergraduate course rep for 2026/2027! I am 19 and an adult nursing student who is extremely passionate about advocating for student nurses. In my spare time I have recently started learning how to crochet however I don’t think I'll be crocheting cardis anytime soon! Other than that, I am an Auntie (my favorite and most important role) to my wonderful nephew Lenny, and I absolutely love a fun fashion moment!
What I Bring to the role?
- Hardworking – I am highly ambitious and willing to try my hand at anything! It has landed me in some of the most wonderful situations such as getting to meet King Charles in 2019 and delivering talks to incoming students on level 4 courses!
- Strong awareness of student issues – as a nursing student I understand the hardship the long days, the lack of financial freedom. Not every day is a walk in the park!
- Previous experience - As a current RCN student rep, I am already aware of the issues you are facing! Also, on my previous Level 4 course I was a student rep!
- Multi Field Experience – I have experience in all 3 fields of nursing. QUB offers LD, MH and Children's, meaning I can relate to you on so many different levels.
- I am a strong communicator - I could talk to anyone! And I'm no stranger to putting myself out there I have previous public speaking experience and while in school appeared on BBC Radio for a series of “Music Is the Answer”!
What I Want to Do for You? (Manifesto)
- Advocate for better access to mental health services for healthcare students. - Studies have shown that student nurses have ‘average’ mental health. I would like students to have protected wellbeing days and faster access to counselling for healthcare staff.
- Placement Concerns – I will work to ensure placement concerns are taken seriously including issues around travel costs, shift patterns, support on placement, and communication between university and clinical placement is as streamlined as possible.
- Financial Support – calls for action to increase the Bursary Allowance, better accommodation options at QUB for student nurses and additional student support fund allowance where possible.
- Representation and Feedback – I want to chat with you! I want to regularly be in touch with you through informal coffee morning catch ups, online platforms, and open feedback opportunities. I want students to feel that they are being listened to and raise these issues with the wider QUB community and get your answers, feedback, and most important action!
I am committed to being an active, dependable, and compassionate representative who listens, speaks up, and creates action. If you elect me, I will work hard to ensure you are represented and feel heard, valued, and respected.
