To make uni life better, because we're better together

Hiya! I'm Chloe, a BA Film Studies & Production student and I am standing to be your AHSS Undergrad Faculty Rep next year.

But why should I be the one to represent you?

I have been a Course Representative for the last year, so I have been listening to everyone's opinions and experiences on my course and at meetings. From this I have given feedback and seen where AHSS can to improve for us, and I have an idea of how. I am a very friendly person so you can always approach me. If I am elected and I'll listen, and fight for what I believe in; that we are listened to and that change is implemented to make our time at uni better

According to numbers on Queen's and the faculty webpages; I'd estimate that we make up almost 42% of the student population. This role has an impact on so many people, and I want to make sure it's a positive one, and to work towards making uni life better for all of us: (of course, if there is anything I've missed or you have any questions, feel free to grab me if I'm around, or reach out to me)

  • Our assignment deadlines are still so condensed; even if we can work towards them over the semester, we will be revising and editing final drafts of our assigments before we submit them. Not to mention, we are home to the majority of Joint Honours students, and we need staff to better coordinate our submission windows. I will work with schools in our faculty to have the ongoing issue of bunched up assignment deadlines addressed.
  • Our disciplines are heavily interconnected and very collaborative in nature. These are skills we need in the working world. So I believe networking and collaboration should start at university:
    • I want to work with the schools in AHSS to facilitate more student collaboration in modules across disciplines.
    • Work with the SU to hold casual faculty networking events/mixers and build on networking skills/opportunities within the schools.
    • Campaign for more employer events/opportunities for more students in the faculty, to give us a taste at life in our chosen fields and help students build professional connections.
  • Work with the faculty to bring in more supports for the AHSS student body
    • Learning: make accessing recorded lectures more straightforward, work to ensure classes are recorded across disciplines, improve study spaces.
    • Wellbeing: Work with the SU to have a wellbeing programme, hold small wellbeing events during particularly high stress periods of the academic year, pitch the introduction of a wellbeing/sensory space in student social spaces.
  • We're amid a cost of living crisis, so the cost of looking after ourselves is incredibly high without the added pressure of hidden costs in our degrees. I want to work towards addressing these costs and exploring ways in which we can reduce them for you.

Of course, last but not least, I want to amplify the student voice. If I'm elected I will endeavor to bring positive changes for you, and advocate for the issues most effecting you here at Queen's. I will do my best to keep you in the loop with what is happening in your faculty, and I will always be there to lend a hand with any issues that arise; however I can help.

So, I hope to see you next year as your UG Faculty Rep!
