Who Am I?
I’m Yijing Wang, a BSc Architecture student at Queen’s University Belfast, originally from China. My passion for student welfare comes from my multilingual and multicultural background, my work experiences, and my personal journey overcoming challenges.
I speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and English, and I’m currently learning Japanese and Spanish. Having traveled to 20 countries, I have learned how to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and understand different struggles.
I have worked as an architecture assistant, interior designer, barista, grocery store cashier, and a volunteer for school departments (enrollment and open days). These experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate, understand life challenges, and adapt to new environments.
Additionally, I have been a student representative for two years, which has allowed me to work closely with school departments and tutors. Acting as a bridge between students and staff, I take great pride in ensuring students’ voices are heard and contributing to positive changes.
At Queen’s, I have personally experienced both the lack of and the care from student support services during difficult times in my physical and mental health. The Students' Union and other University departments provided me with valuable guidance and support, but I realized that many students facing challenges don’t know how to access the help available to them.
This is why I want to expand the influence of the Students' Union—so that more students know where to turn when they need support. This will not only benefit students but also strengthen the university community.
My Vision & Commitments
I believe every student should have an equal chance to succeed, no matter their background or struggles. I will work to:
✔ Make Academic Support More Inclusive – Whether you face language barriers, learning difficulties, or personal struggles, I will advocate for better accessibility, clearer academic policies, and stronger learning support.
✔ Promote Fair & Flexible Learning – I will push for better digital learning access, fairer assessment methods, and improved support for students with different needs.
✔ Encourage Student Engagement in Academic Life – Many students feel disconnected from their education. I will create more opportunities for student-led discussions, mentorship programs, and academic support groups.
