Accessibility is for everyone, not just those of us with a diagnosis! For you, not just for me!

Aim Number 1 - Support for Incoming Students

I aim to implement more research and support to those who are transitioning to Higher Level Education in Queen’s with a greater focus on 1st & 2nd Years, Postgraduates, and Mature/Returning Students.

→ Some such examples of support including, but by no means limited to:

  • Campus Tours provided by the Student Union for new students

  • Greater focus on inter-departmental socialisation by organising free and accessible events in collaboration with the Activities and Engagement Officer

  • Academic writing classes and active study sessions, both online and in-person for those who are uncertain, expanding past just the international student target audience, encouraging everyone to attend.

  • “In-Between Study” events for students to drop into during peak study times with items such as free hot chocolate for the colder months.

Aim Number 2 - Language and Writing Accessibility

I wish to implement a policy wherein any international or second-language student may request a translation dictionary to be provided by the university in exam settings!

I also wish to encourage attendance of the already-existing Academic Writing Classes and make them more accessible by lobbying for them to be put online.

I further wish to expand the Academic Writing assistance to incorporate each sector of the university, to be more inclusive of the different forms of academic writing from Business to Arts to STEM.

Aim Number 3 - Healthcare for Students

→ I wish to work closely with the Welfare Officer to:

  1. Encourage harm reduction across sexual health and drug use by providing free condoms and tampons and pads
  2. Implement an Emergency Healthcare Fund for students who cannot access the NHS system in time for a minor but urgent issue due to backlog
  3. Implement a Social Transition Fund as it exists in other universities for transgender and nonbinary students

I wish to work to implement more affordable and accessible exercise / gym options for all types of students, by engaging with local organisations and societies, due to the lack of Queen’s free gym to students.
